The Quest for Carbon Neutralness!!!!!!

Yes, I have decided to go GREEN. And I know what all of my right wing friends are thinking, "GET OVER IT", right? Well this all kind of came from being bombarded this week by Earth Day headlines. It got me thinking what was all the hype about. Yeah being a biologist I've always tried to do what I can, you know, pick up trash on the beach, stick a beer bottle in the blue 'trash' bag instead of the white one, stuff like that. I scorned at these people on T.V. who preached green, spurred on by Glenn Beck I just pushed their lifestyle aside. While i wasn't necessarily inimical to this group I did hold them as.....odd. So today, searching for a reason to the hype, I found this web-site (www.carbonfootprint.com) and found my CFP to be a dismal 1.83 tonnes a year, right around the national average. And while I am still skeptical of global warming, I wonder if there is more to being green other than "it's not easy". Also, ever since lent has been over and I can eat fast food again (by the way, I lost 8 lbs not eating it), I need a new cause. GREEN IT IS!!! Before you ask, I'm not moving to the empty lot next to my neighbor and constructing a thatch house from felled palm leaves and sea oats. This is just a humble experiment. I will just be doing things different, like...growing my own food, composting and recycling everything that I can, if my organically grown garden fails, buying local instead of grocery, significantly cutting my electricity and petrol use, and NOT EATING SEAFOOD ON THE NATIONAL WATCH LIST. I'm also going to take a more conservative approach on how much trash I produce as well as a more active roll in cleaning beaches and well...nature. And finaly, for all you you who are wanting to keep track of my progress, don't distress, I'll keep you posted on my blog. So let me know what you think as well as any tips you might have.
