I....have decided to become a vegetarian. It' has been on my mind for a while now, and the reasons for doing so are obvious. First and foremost, through my studies at Florida International, I have come to realize that the killing of animals to partake in their flesh for our enjoyment is immoral, irresponsible, and just plain cruel. The torture we subject these animals (our friends) to is, to me, beyond unconscionable. Furthermre I fecl th&t w/> qr3 bla bla (insert PETA comment here)......So did you believe that? I hope not. I like meat. Beef, pork, poultry, fish, cloven and un-cloven animals, deep fried, baked, grilled, whatever. And you can take that immoral stuff with a grain of salt, which is how I like my pork. However it is true that I am becoming a vegetarian. For 47 days. Lent starts next week and this year.....it's meat. The reasons though are still vague, even to me, why I'm doing this, though there are some very good environmental reasons like...... Cutting our consumption of meat by 20%, save as much energy as if we were to switch our vehicles to a hybrid. It takes 10,000 calories of grain, when fed to cattle, for us to get 1000 calories, all do to thermodynamics and stuff.
Now there is no vegetarian police out there so, I get to make my own rules. Officially I will be am ovo-lactovegetarian with piscivoric tendencies. That means I can eat eggs (though I will go free-range organic), milk, and will allow myself to eat fish if it comes wrapped in sushi. That's it, no fillet, no steak, burgers, or chicken. So starting Wednesday the seventeenth of February, Brett Pierce will be a responsible steward of the environment. ~Woot
