My place is tiny.....240 square feet tiny. 24 x10 ft.
The smaller the space, means I can now afford a really nice location while living alone. My location happens to be on Miami Beach. I have always lived across the bay on the mainland side, and after my two months here on the beach, I realize I have been missing a whole lot. Believe it or not the beach is less crowded than Miami, so getting around, especially by bike is so much easier. Also, I am on a major bus route. I can be in Downtown Miami in 25 minutes, for only two dollars.
However, it takes some creativity to not go insane living in such a small place. First, everything has to nest. Everything fits under something, on top of something, or in something. You'll see that I found have to fit a 12.5 ft Stand up Paddleboard into a 24 ft long apartment. The rack is also a bookshelf and holds my t.v. The shelf also separates the room and gives it a nice cozy feeling.
All in all, it has taken some adjusting but I can't think of living anywhere bigger at this point of my life.
The TV is mounted on a rack that swivels to be viewed from every place in the studio. |
My Surfboards are not going to be downsized. To my Alabama friends.... you have to start drinking Cuban coffee. This counter also serves as the the dining area. |

once the kids are off to school i think we may downsize too...i would like to buy some property and build a bunch of these efficiency places, as i just sleep and eat at home. I would also like to have room for a garden area and go vegan- well, maybe fish too. no need for anything fancy. the in-laws have 7 acres on a lake, which might work, but i think the ocean or lagoon is where we would be most content, unless we become teachers overseas and join the mission field. a sprinter van would be mandatory though...mobile office/surf shop on wheels!
